Kelso Highland Games September 10th and 11th, 2005

Kelso Games Parade
The games at Kelso were a huge success for Scottish Terrier Rescue Northwest. We met lots of people, spread a lot of information on our breed, rescue, and about how to add a pet to your family. Jan and Susan Morris braved the weather to walk in the parade from the City of Kelso to the park where the games are, they had four Scotties and proudly carried our banner. Earlier this week we got a third place ribbon from the people who put on the parade for our participation. WOW!!! The Scotties came in third out of all of those entries.

This was two days of games and they were nice enough to allow us to set up with our motor home right there. That made it much nicer to man the booth with all of our facilities there. We sold lots of our wares for money for our rescue program and also collected about $200 for the Katrina animals which we sent off with our own funds to Noah’s Wish who was one of the first responders for the animals in that area.

Kelso Games BoothThe music was great as we were only about 100 feet from the covered area where most of the bands played. We had one young boy come over several times to our booth to buy Scotty collectables. We found out that when things would slow down, he would set up and play his bagpipes wearing his kilt and full garb for tips, and then come back to our booth to buy more Scotty stuff. With a little urging he came back to our booth and played for us. It is things like that that make the smaller games really fun to participate in.

The dogs were wonderful and very patient with all the people who wanted to pet them. We had taken Hawk, our resident rescue dog and our wheaten Nessie on this trip. Both had quite a time barking at every other dog that came close but were very gentle with all the people and I think enjoyed all of the attention.

It was a wonderful weekend, except that at 1 PM on Saturday we had a downpour that did not quit until after it had emptied the place. That gave us a chance to meet some of the other vendors. We now have been invited to do Tacoma, Kelso, Vancouver, and Puyallup next year.

Everyone always loves seeing the Scotties and most people who come by the booth have a story about the Scotty that they had as a child.
